Project Wizard
A downloadable game for Windows
Project Wizard is a top down, twin stick shooter that puts you in the shoes of a powerful wizard, fighting hordes of creatures while powering up your abilities to survive as your enemies get stronger.
Features:
- Branching upgrade paths for your 3 abilities, choose powers that suit your playstyle and tactics
- 3 enemy factions, each with different resistances making choosing the right attacks important
- An uncapped levelling system, allowing you to upgrade a range of attributes and get exponentially more powerful
- Endless survival mode, fighting enemies that get progressively stronger, making choosing the right upgrades essential to survive
About Project Wizard:
Project Wizard was designed as a demo or a proof of concept for a larger project. The full game wouldbe based on the core idea of a top down shooter where you level up as you fight enemies and choose from random sets of upgrades as you go. These features are fully implemented in game, with space for expansions like opportunities to unlock completely new abilities and more granular upgrades for abilities, instead of fixed upgrade trees.
The larger project will be more of a roguelike than a straight survival mode, with larger, procedurally generated (or at least with semi randomly assembled) layouts and environments along with more diverse enemy factions and types to fight. As you defeat your enemies you earn experience to level up with but also gold that would be used to upgrade a home base, giving you bonus perks and benefits in subsequent runs.
Controls:
Project Wizard is my first project with full controller support through gameplay and menus, controls are listed for keyboard, Xbox, Playstation and Switch controllers.
- WASD or Left Stick - Movement / Menu navigation
- Mouse or Right Stick - Aim
- Left Mouse Button or Right Trigger - Primary Attack
- Right Mouse Button or Left Trigger - Secondary Attack
- Q or Left Bumper - Ability
- Space Bar or B/Circle/A - Dodge
- Escape or Start - Pause
- Enter or A/Cross/B - Menu Interact
Feedback:
This project is the first time I've used a lot of features in Unity, like behaviour trees and a lot of lighting, so I need feedback on what has worked and what causes problems. If you come across any issues (especially performance issues as I've not been able to test across different devices) get in touch by leaving a comment here or sending an email to feedback@insightgames.uk
Known Issues:
- UI buttons are highlighted unnecessarily. When a menu appears, it automatically selects one of the buttons to allow for menu navigation with a controller or a keyboard. The downside is that there is a button highlighted even while a mouse is being used. Clicking somewhere on the screen will deselect the highlighted button but it's purely a visual issue.
- Some sounds keep playing when a menu is visible. The audio sources that play looping audio aren't muted when the game is paused. Not a game breaking issue, just annoying.
- Some flickering lights. Most lights are animated to flicker a bit, but this causes some parts of the environment to flicker a lot.
